Community Events and what disabled people are doing
Please look over the different choices we need Volunteers to fill.
Food Delivery: This is delivering food to homebound people. Car is not necessary.
Restaurant Club: First Friday of every month. We go to a different restaurant each time, so please note that you will have to travel
Movie Night: The second Friday of every month. It is located at Beth Abraham Nursing Home, 612 Allerton Avenue in the Bronx.
Trips: On the first Saturday of every month we will have a trip to a different place. If you want to volunteer you must have the first Saturday of every month free. You will have to travel to different locations so please take that into consideration.
Be A Friend Day: The third Saturday of every month. This is when members meet at a specific location and are assigned to one volunteer who can help them for three hours, with such things as running errands, reading mail to the blind, shopping or going to a movie, etc.
Be A Helper: This is a commitment to work with a different person one day a week, you can tell us which day is best for you.
Action Line: This is a commitment to answer the phone from your home for three hours one day a week. Two shifts are available. We will teach you what you need to know to answer the phone. You will be helping disabled people with their problems.
Clerical Work: This is to help out with emails, advertising and mailings for the organization.
On call: This is for an individual who is available when we call and need you, you do not have to accept any assignment but once you do it is a firm commitment .
You may choose to be on call and we will call you when we have extra assignments, such as helping people to medical appointments, or reading of mail to the blind, etc.
You can volunteer for 1 thing only!
You will also have to attend 1 orientation meeting and complete a background check, click on the link below, which will cost you $20. If you wish, we can reimburse you for half of the cost.
Also we will need you to make a commitment of 1 year.
