Volunteering
We need volunteers to help with a variety of different tasks.
Food Delivery: This is delivering food to homebound people. A car is not necessary. We have our regular food delivery on the third Saturday of the month. If you are only able to deliver on another day, please contact us and we can work something out.
Restaurant Club: First Saturday of every month. We go to a different restaurant each time, so please note that you will have to travel. If you are a volunteer, we will pay for up to $15 of your meal and you will be responsible for any amount over $15.
Trips and Social Events: The second Saturday of the month is either a social event or a trip. These events and trips take place in different locations so you will need to travel to those locations, although a car is not necessary.
Be A Friend Day: Third Saturday of every month. This is when members meet at a specific location and are assigned to one volunteer who can help them for three hours, with such things as running errands, reading mail to the blind, shopping or going to a movie, etc.
Be A Helper: This is a commitment to work with a member for two to three hours, one day a week. You and the member will work out the days and times that work best for you.
Action Line: This is a commitment to answer the phone from your home for three hours one day a week. Shifts available are 9am to 12 noon, 12 noon to 3pm, 3pm to 6pm, and 6pm to 9pm. Shifts are available 7 days a week. We will teach you what you need to know to answer the phone. You will be helping disabled people with tasks that can be done over the phone, such as looking up information online, assisting with online shopping or helping to find necessary services.
Clerical Work: Assisting with emails, advertising and mailings for the organization. We ask for a commitment of two hours a week. Most of these tasks can be done independently on your own time.
Volunteers On Call: Volunteers on call assist with tasks that do not fall under our other programs, such as helping people go to medical appointments, assisting with shopping or apartment hunting, reading mail or email, etc. Volunteers will be called as needed. You do not need to accept an assignment, but once you do, it is a firm commitment. You will only be contacted for volunteer assignments during the days and hours that you specified as available. This is the option you can select if you are interested in volunteering only once or seldomly.
You can volunteer for one activity only!
You will also have to attend one orientation meeting and complete a background check.
Also, we will need you to commit for one year.
